Return to Formal Training

After 16 months of practice outdoors and by Zoom,

we are delighted to announce our return to formal training on the mat.

On Wednesday, June 30, the Minnesota Ki Society community gathered in the gym of Christ Church Lutheran to create our dojo space and convene our first formal Ki-Aikido class since March 2020. There were many smiles and much laughter as we practiced Ki-Aikido techniques and exercises we've missed, including koho tento waza and tumbling.

We are profoundly grateful for the many contributions of our community members in creating this new space together: from finding and securing this space, to assisting with moving in mats, and in training together to open the space.

Going forward, Wednesday classes will be held from 6-8 PM in the Christ Church Lutheran gym.

Important notes about training in this new space:

  • The church requires full COVID vaccination for all people entering this space.

  • Masking is not required. Because all participants are vaccinated, masks are not required on the mat. However, you are welcome to wear a mask if this makes you more comfortable while training indoors.

  • Building our dojo. The door opening onto 34th Ave will be open by 5:30 PM. We will need to build our dojo before each class can begin, and clean and put away mats afterwards. As you are able, please arrive early to help put mats in place and dress out. As you are able, please assist with cleaning and putting away mats after class.

  • Plan to dress out. There are changing rooms across the hall. Please bring gi, belt, hakama (if worn), and zori (sandals). This will be excellent training for future seminars.

  • What to expect. Aikido techniques and rolling will be featured in this class.

Sunday and Friday classes will remain outdoors for now.

We continue to meet under the maples in the southern corner of South Saint Anthony Park.
